PERFECTION: “Refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.” In other words, nothing ever gets done, nothing completed, delays and procrastination to stop doing what needs to be done to SUCCEED! I’m the first to admit I’m a recovering perfectionist afraid of looking bad, not doing it right, looking like an idiot, making mistakes… you get the idea. I realize it has stopped me in my life when I could have been living FULL OUT! I missed opportunities to thrive. Instead, it was safer to stay in my little box and do what I knew to be safe and bored in a rut and not contributing to my highest potential.
So, what changed?
Two things in my life:
1. My sister passed away after a long battle with cancer.
2. My granddaughter was born.
Those two events over the past year has changed my perspective on life. I’m moving into a new phase of wanting to contribute more. How can I serve with the time I have left in my life? My sister was thirteen months older than me and now she’s gone. It gave me pause to stop and think about what’s really important. And then my granddaughter was born. A fresh perspective, a new view on life. She does not have the history of living to remind her of all of the things she did wrong or failed at. She is in a new field of possibilities with much to discover.
Here are my 6 tips for LIVING FULL OUT:
1. Allow yourself to dream and meditate about what’s really important in your life and go for it!
2. Allow yourself to take imperfect action and make mistakes and celebrate those mistakes! Forgive yourself and be grateful for the life you’ve had up until now.
3. Say NO to the situations and relationships that are no longer working in your life.
4. Allow yourself to speak your truth and not self-edit when you have something to say.
5. Don’t let tired be an excuse for not going for your dreams.
6. Be kind to yourself.
Oh, and breath…Everything is going to be okay. How about fabulous? Exciting? Outstanding? Blissful? What if you created the possibility of happiness despite the pandemic and the election? You get to choose what your life will become. Be an example of what’s possible!
Go forth and be happy in spite of your circumstances!
